1. Choose the Right Bike
Not every motorcycle is built for the Sahara. You want something lightweight with good suspension travel and knobby tires. A 450cc enduro or a rally-style bike works best for the soft sand and rocky tracks you'll encounter around Douz.
2. Hydration Is Everything
The desert heat is unforgiving. Plan to drink at least 4-5 liters of water per day, and always carry more than you think you'll need. Dehydration sneaks up fast when you're focused on riding.
3. Ride Early, Rest at Midday
The best riding conditions are between sunrise and 11 AM. The sand is cooler and firmer, and the light creates stunning shadows across the dunes. Use midday for rest, lunch, and exploring camp on foot.
4. Trust Your Guide
Your guide knows every dune, every hidden oasis, and every tricky passage. Don't try to be a hero — follow their lines, listen to their advice, and you'll have a much better (and safer) experience.
5. Embrace the Falls
You will drop your bike in the sand. Everyone does. The soft Sahara sand is forgiving, and getting back up is part of the adventure. Laugh it off, dust yourself off, and keep riding.
